CP Miller Dantawaye, Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has cautioned residents, particularly women, against accepting free rides from strangers as part of efforts to curb criminal activities in Abuja.
Dantawaye issued the warning on Friday during a courtesy visit by a delegation of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), including members of the International Federation of Women Lawyers, NBA Women Forum, and Unity Bar, to the FCT Police Command headquarters.

According to the FCT Police spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, the CP said, “Residents of the FCT should remain security-conscious and vigilant, particularly when boarding commercial vehicles. Members of the public, especially ladies, must be cautious of the vehicles they board and refrain from accepting free rides from strangers.” He also stressed, “Collective responsibility, timely information sharing, and public cooperation are essential in preventing and dismantling ‘one-chance’ criminal operations across the Territory.”
Dantawaye also commiserated with the lawyers over the killing of their colleague, Ms. Princess Ochigbo, assuring them that the command had launched discreet and extensive investigations to identify and apprehend the perpetrators. Ochigbo’s body was discovered on the Kubwa Expressway on Tuesday, with her bag containing personal items recovered nearby. Reports indicate she may have been a staff member of the FCT High Court.
The warning comes shortly after another incident, the killing of a nurse at the Federal Medical Centre, Jabi, identified as Chinemerem Chuwumeziem, which drew condemnation from the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives, FCT Council.
The FCT Police continue to investigate both cases while urging residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement.
