INTERNATIONAL DAY OF EDUCATION 2026: FG ADVANCES YOUTH-LED, SKILLS-DRIVEN, AND FUTURE-READY EDUCATION

The Federal government has reaffirmed its commitment to inclusive, equitable, and future-ready education, positioning Nigerian youths as active partners in transforming the nation’s learning system.

Speaking at the 2026 International Day of Education celebration in Abuja, themed “The Power of Youth in Co-creating Education,” the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, CON, described education as the foundation of civilisation, peace and sustainable development, while acknowledging challenges such as access gaps, skills mismatch and gender disparities.

The Minister stated that ongoing reforms are anchored on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises education for national renewal and economic growth, supported by improved funding and strategic partnerships.

He outlined key interventions under the Education Transformation Roadmap, including curriculum reform, digitalisation, strengthened teacher capacity, expanded TVET, improved infrastructure, and a National Anti-Bullying Policy. He emphasised Nigeria’s youth advantage and reaffirmed commitment to SDG 4.
