NERC RELEASES 28 BILLION NAIRA TO DISCOs FOR METERING BAND “A & B” FREE

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has approved the release of twenty-eight billion naira from the Meter acquisition fund to Electricity Distribution Companies to Meter all outstanding unmetered band ‘A’ and ‘B’ customers.

The funds will be allocated in proportion to the respective contributions of the distribution companies under tranche B of the intervention

In an order released by NERC, all the meters to be procured and installed under the Meter acquisition fund framework shall be provided free to band ‘A’ and ‘B’ tariff customers

NERC directs all distribution companies to complete the installation of the meters under the tranche B of the Meter acquisition fund by 31 December 2025

The intervention under the Meter acquisition fund is part of the commission’s deliberate efforts to close the metering gap in the country, and it will run concurrently with other interventions, including the presidential metering initiative.
