Ogun State Gov’t Denial Claims of Having Anointed Candidate for Awujale

The government of Ogun State has denied the report circulating on various media platforms that it has a special candidate for the stool of Awujale of Ijebu land.

This was disclosed in a statement issued by Hamzat Ganiyu, Ogun State Commissioner of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs which stated that, “The public should note that the selection process for the Awujale is governed strictly by customary law, established chieftaincy decelerations and extant law of Ogun State.
“The government remains fully committed to due process, fairness, neutrality, and respect for the traditions of Ijebuland.

“The government vowed to invoke Section 23(2) of Obas and Chiefs law of Ogun State, 2021 against anyone parading themselves as the Awujale-elected before the selection process is complete and urged anyone fabricating false information should desist from the act or face the full wrought of the law.”
