Education in Ogun State is in a state of Comatose compared to what we have in past Government. No Governor can use Education to play lotto, it is not possible. Though am aware of the defensive Government run by Senator Ibikunle Amosun who accepts no form of criticism but permit me to ask if it is possible for a Government to run an all-perfect Government? If the Answer is no, please read further.
Anytime I travel in and out of Abeokuta, I see new building painted in Green colour and from my investigation, I found out the buildings are the proposed model school by Governor Ibikunle Amosun. I really throw a salute because this is worthy of praise. Everything changed when I needed to collect my primary school certificate for plum bank job in Lagos and I had to visit my alma mater in Abeokuta. It was with disdain and shame that I met the poor state of attention giving to the school by the Government.
Firstly, I noticed there was no administrative staff in the whole compound and my investigation further supported it is in all public primary school. Very amazing indeed. How can a system function without administrative staffs?
Secondly, I discovered record system was also bad coupled the first point earlier mentioned. The Students have no books. Why? The Government promised free Education but nothing was free because they still demanded Three hundred naira insurance fee from all the pupils, I wonder what they were insuring.
Furthermore, there were no books. The only few books provided has answer pages and the Governemnet have warned the teachers not to allow any pupils fill anything into the space so it can be used again the following year. Imagine that while parents sits back, relax and expects quality return from their Child. Please, if Education is free, try ignorance.
Thirdly, there were few or no amenties. No light, fan, instructional materials as well as teaching aids in the School. The have few chairs compared to the population while the teachers are not well equipped including furnitures to sit on.
The floor was mixture of cemented ground and sands while the roofs where leaking. Here,I’ll blame past Government more because fro the renovation epitaph placed inform of the building shows the immediate past Government carried out major repairs and if they are today not functioning properly, it shows they did a poor job compared to the old Building that are the in better shape than this.
Fourtly, Welfare is Zero. No photocopy machine talkless of money knows as impress. Teachers have to allow old pupils go out with school official documents to make photocopy since the school had none. Even letter were typed outside. None of this primary school can boast of a standard letterhead.
According to a teacher who claimed anonymity, ‘for the past three years, we have not been paid Christmas bonus which is the Ten percent given to every worker in the state announced by the Governer”. Am aware that Senator Ibikunle loves publicity, so am not surprised. I wonder if the Nigeria Union of Teachers is asleep to the extent that the welfarism of their members is suffering laxity.
To be candid, I advise Governor Ibikunle Amosun not to put in use the new model school if he fails to put the existing public primary school in order. Because, if it does, it would return back to the current state of existing public school.
To the various media aides of SIA and the SSG who are swift to reply, take time to advise his excellency and let Ogun State moves from Good to better.
