Kano State Assembly Repeals Law Used by Ganduje to Dethrone Emir Sanusi

The Kano State Assembly has passed legislation seeking to dissolve new emirates established during the tenure of former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje. After the Kano Emirates Council Law (Repeal Bill) 2024 passes, district heads who were appointed or promoted under the law that was repealed will take their old roles back.

On Thursday during plenary, the legislators passed the amended sections of the Emirate Council Law 2019.
The newly established Emirates in the state will also be revoked by the law, and the new bill will set aside the offices created by the law that was repealed.

This development means that Kano State now has only one Emirate legally which is the Kano Emirate and all the other four emirs have now been relegated back to their former statuses (if any) before the law took effect in 2019.
