Non-availability of a centralised data in Nigeria is a big issue as far as the economic issue is concerned because it has continued to waste the country resources wasting efforts as well as manpower. A centralised database is a database that is located, stored and mainland in a single location.
You would agree with me from a national identity card, one’s information should be easily accessed for the purpose of international passport, drivers licence, Permanent voters card, Federal road safety corps Drivers licence and phase away multiplicity of id cards project embarked upon by past administration. All of the information stored on the CBS is accessible from a large number of different points, which in turn creates a significant amount of both advantages and disadvantages.
This automatically phases out various agencies spending government money in taka people’s data which might not available for another future exercise. Why is that the country cannot established an agency in custody of Nigerians database which will reduce the overbearing cost of running government.
Permanent Voters Card, (PVC) was seen in active role during the recently conducted election that Nigeria is gradually growing and need the support of all and sundry. A further behaviour of non-challancy as far as data base is concern which will have adequate effect on the economy.
More important, past agencies that have handed such data base before should go to the office of Statistic and remits the information on hand. PMB can do it fine by making sure the international word would give us the necessary respects.
The NIMC in-charge of the national identity card and FRSC should henceforth work together with the presidency in order to help solve this anomaly. part of the benefits of this is Data integrity, Data preservation as well as information can be accessed at the same time. On the other side, Centralised databases are highly dependent on network connectivity while there is slower internet connection and it makes it harder for database to be accessed on time. But in all,a country like Nigeria needs a uniform database. Most government have used various opportunity hiding under id projects to dig deep in the nations purse since we cannot lay claim to a a particular one.
We can do it,our leaders do travel out while over 35% of the population who have the opportunity to have traveled as well for one reason or the other can also attest to the fact that other countries of the world use this central data base system and cannot be left out.
Since we are in the change period, it is advised that the president takes serious the issue of a centralised database for the entire country once and for all so we can move ahead.
