The Association of Ex-Local Government Chairmen of Nigeria (ASELGON), has thrown its weight behind the governor of Ondo state, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, ahead of the November 16, 2024 governorship election in the state.
In a unanimous voice vote, the former council chairmen gave their support to the governor, at the association’s Southwest Delegates’ Conference, held at the International Event and Cultural Center (The Dome) in Akure on Thursday.
Speaking through its national president, Albert Asipa, ASELGON cited the ongoing infrastructural development, human capital development, peace and security, among other laudable initiatives, as the inspiration for supporting Aiyedatiwa to return as governor of the state in the November election.
Conferring the honor of patron of the association on the governor, Asipa said, “In the history of our association, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa is the first incumbent governor to be decorated as patron of the association.”
Asipa charged members of the association in Ondo state to enlighten people at the grassroots about the projects, programs and policies of the governor as the 2024 election draws nigh.
Chief host of the occasion and Ondo state commissioner for lands and housing, Akinwumi Sowore, thanked the governor for deepening governance at the grassroots.
Keynote speaker, Prof Adebanjo Badejo, harped on creative methods to boosting food production, using case studies from around the world. Badejo lauded Governor Aiyedatiwa for the approval of N2bn intervention fund to enhance food security in the state.
Reacting to the investiture, the governor, who was represented by his deputy, Olayide Adelami, thanked the organisers for the honor and promised to continue to put Ondo state on the path of prosperity. He commended the founding fathers of the association, saying “the importance of your association cannot be over-emphasized.
“This is so as your experience and expertise are invaluable assets to Nigeria as a country and also our dear state.“
