UNIBEN Bans Use of Hot Plates, Ring Boilers, Gas in School Hostels

The University of Benin (UNIBEN) has banned the use of gas cooker, hot Plates and ring boilers within the university hostels as part of efforts to reduce energy cost on the university.

This was as the management also vowed to rusticate ant student violating the ban.

This was disclosed in a circular issued by Ademola Bobola, the school Registrar.

The circular read, “The move is linked to a recent electricity crisis at the university. The Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) increased the university’s monthly electricity bill from N88 million to N250 million, leading to the disconnection of both campuses.

“This caused a student protest on July 3, prompting the university Senate to temporarily close the institution to prevent disorder.Students must adhere to new regulations for electricity use and payment of outstanding fees.

That any student found violating this order will face expulsion.Students without proof of payment will not be allowed to sit for exams.

Bobola also emphasized that students must comply with university rules, avoid any unauthorized gatherings, and maintain good conduct.
