Kogi State Government under the administration of Usman Ododo, successor of Yahaya Bello, announced the rescue operation that has gotten six more Kogi Varsity students released; making it twenty students who have been rescued from their unforeseen abductors.
According to Kingsley Fanwo, the Commissioner for Education, who released the statement today, he said, “Our data shows that there are four students yet to be found.”
“The fierce gun battle between security agents and the kidnappers forced the kidnappers to succumb to superior firepower and abandon the kidnapped students. Some of the kidnappers escaped with severe injuries.”
On May 9 2024, police said 14 kidnapped students had been rescued, and currently the parents of the 6 students that were just rescued have also confirmed the arrival of their children.
Kingsley said Usman Ododo, the Executive Governor of Kogi State, thanked the joint operative force that participated in the rescue operations since the news broke out and also imploring them to continue the search until the last victim is found.
“We wish to assure the public that the security architecture around our schools has been recalibrated for efficiency and early warning alarm to prevent future occurrence”, the Commissioner added.
