The Nigeria Police Force has ordered the dismissal and prosecution of officers involved in the fatal shooting incident in Effurun, Delta State, which claimed the life of Mene Ogidi on April 26, 2026.

In a statement, the Force said all officers linked to the incident were earlier withdrawn from the Delta State Command and transferred to Force Headquarters in Abuja, where they underwent expedited disciplinary proceedings.
The Force Disciplinary Committee found that the principal officer, Nuhu Usman, acted in gross violation of operational guidelines, including Force Order 237 regulating the use of firearms. His actions were described as unlawful, unprofessional, and a breach of the oath to protect lives.
Following the findings, the committee recommended the immediate dismissal of Usman and other officers found culpable. The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has approved the recommendations and forwarded them to the Police Service Commission for ratification.
The Force stated that upon completion of administrative procedures, the affected officers would be handed over to appropriate judicial authorities for prosecution over their roles in the incident.
Reiterating the Force’s zero-tolerance policy for extrajudicial actions, the IGP stressed that no officer has the right to take life outside the provisions of the law and warned that any violation would attract severe consequences.
He also extended condolences to the family of the deceased and assured them that justice would be served in a transparent manner that reinforces public trust and accountability.
The Police urged members of the public to remain calm and law-abiding, while reaffirming its commitment to professionalism, discipline, and the protection of citizens’ rights.
