Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has identified Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun as the three APC governors he said are opposed to his Rainbow Coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Wike made the disclosure on Monday while appearing on TVC’s Journalists’ Hangout, amid growing disagreement between him and some members of the APC Governors’ Forum over the political initiative.
The minister said the Rainbow Coalition was aimed at mobilising support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election while allowing politicians from different parties to retain their respective platforms.
Wike contrasted the positions of the three governors with those of several other state governors whom he said had no issue with the coalition.
He mentioned the governors of Adamawa, Edo, Kogi, Lagos and Akwa Ibom, as well as the Ondo State governor, as being receptive to the initiative.
“Adamawa, Edo, Kogi, Lagos and Akwa-Ibom state governors do not have a problem with the Rainbow Coalition. I saw Ondo Governor there, and I was shocked,” Wike said.
He subsequently named the three governors he said were having issues with him.
“The governors having issues with me are Governor Hope Uzodimma, Governor Abdulrazaq and Governor Dapo Abiodun,” he said.
The development comes amid a growing dispute over the Rainbow Coalition, with the APC Governors’ Forum maintaining that its members will support APC candidates in the 2027 elections. Wike, however, has continued to argue that his coalition is not designed to weaken the APC but to mobilise support for Tinubu across political parties. (The Times)
