A canoe carrying 15 children capsized, in Taura LGA, Jigawa State due to flooding, strong winds, and overloading.
According to statement by the jigawa state police command, six children died, seven were rescued, and two remain missing.
The canoe operator who fled is being sought by the police. The Commissioner of Police has urged residents to avoid night travel and overloading, and to always use life jackets while traveling on water ways.
Rescue efforts is however, ongoing to find the remaining missing victims.
