Elizade University Warns Students Over Smartphone Misuse, Threatens Ban

The Management of Elizade University has warned students that they may forfeit the privilege of using smartphones on campus if cases of misuse and indiscipline persist.

The warning was issued during a meeting with a cross-section of 100-level students, described by the University as a family engagement aimed at integrating the new students into its culture and values.

Speaking at the session, the Vice-Chancellor, Philip Gbenro Oguntunde, expressed concern that some students had begun to violate their matriculation oath. He cautioned that such actions could threaten their continued stay in the institution.

“As your in loco parentis, it has become necessary to call you to order and guide you appropriately,” the Vice-Chancellor said, urging the students to remain focused on the purpose of their admission.

In his remarks, the Registrar, Omololu Adegbenro, stressed that university freedom does not equate to indiscipline or misconduct. He reminded students that the institution’s Students’ Handbook serves as the binding code regulating their conduct as members of the university community.

The Registrar specifically warned against the abuse of social media and misuse of smartphones on campus, stating that the University may impose a ban on smartphones if students fail to adhere to established rules.

The meeting reaffirmed the University’s zero tolerance for indiscipline and its commitment to producing responsible, disciplined, and value-driven graduates prepared for leadership roles in society.
