LASG Installs Speed Limit Cameras on Alapere, Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way

Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation has announced the installation of speed limit cameras on Alapere and Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way in Ikeja.

In response to public concerns regarding the enforcement of speed limits on selected roads, the Lagos State Government has reaffirmed the legality of these regulations and urged motorists to comply with the safety of all road users.

This was disclosed In a statement issued by Bolanle Oguntola, Deputy Director of Public Affairs in the ministry, Osiyemi clarified that the devices were set up to monitor speeding and improve road safety. He urged the public to disregard false reports suggesting that the government had installed such devices on numerous roads across the state.

The commissioner reaffirmed the legality of the speed limit regulations, citing Section 28(2)(a) of the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law (2018) as the legal backing for imposing fines and penalties on motorists who exceed prescribed speed limits. He emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring safer roads and urged compliance from all road users.

Further clarifying the legal framework for traffic signs, Osiyemi emphasised that the Ministry of Transportation is solely responsible for determining the size, colour, and type of traffic signs in Lagos State, ensuring standardization and adherence to global best practices.

While urging the public to stop the fabrication of false information on the speed limit operation, the Commissioner reiterated that the speed limit cameras which were installed after comprehensive studies on the need in the axes they are currently only on,
He noted that studies have shown the need for other areas of the state and that this will be done after further reviews. He, however, reaffirmed that the primary purpose of installing the cameras is for the safety of commuters as well as motorists on the road.
