Omoyele Sowore, a human rights activist, has led retire police officers and some activists to protest against the poor welfare of both serving and retired officers of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).

Addressing the press on Monday, during the protest at the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) headquarters in Abuja, Sowore said, “We are here on behalf of the serving, retired, dead, abandon, maltreated Police officers across Nigeria on the struggle for better policing in the country and welfare of Police officers in Nigeria.

“Most importantly, our determination is to see that Police officers retired are not discarded like dead woods in this country, our interest Is to get the Federal government of Nigeria to recognise the right of officers not to die after retirement.
We are proposing that an average policeman in Nigeria should not earn less than N500,000 per month with a life insurance policy, “he added.
