Unknown gunmen believed to be Boko Haram insurgents attempted to invade the Nganzai Police Division where the officers on duty valiantly repelled the attackers in a fierce gun battle.
During the exchange of fire, the terrorists hurled hand grenades, one of which landed on a shelter tent behind the division, fatally injuring two officers.
CP Muhammad Lawan Yusufu, Borno State Commissioner of Police conducted a scene assessment and noted the recovery of two unexploded hand grenades by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal EOD Unit from Base 13, Maiduguri.
The remains of the fallen officers were transported to the State General Hospital in Maiduguri.
CP Yusufu praised the courage of the officers who defended the division and assured the public that normalcy has been restored, calling for calm and reaffirmed the Command’s dedication to ensuring security.
