2023 Election: Lagos Senator Contesting Election in Ogun state is ‘Bigamy’.

Many of the current events unfolding as the 2023 elections draws near shows many of our political aspirants’s act of selfishness, which goes against true democratic ideals and ideology.

Bigamy in marriage is when a legally married person goes ahead to take another partner, without legally separating from the first one. It is having two partners simultaneously, and it is an offence punishable by the law of the Federation.

In the same vein, a Senator who had served in Lagos as member of the house of Assembly representing Alimosho twice,Federal house of representatives once, after which he went to the Senate, spending another three terms representing a Senatorial district in Lagos, and now intends to contest for Senate in Ogun west for the fourth time is nothing but ‘ Political Bigamy’, and it is totally unacceptable. I am talking about no other person than Senator Olamilekan Adeola Yayi.

Elections in 2023

Why have some politicians suddenly lost all sense of decency? Why will an individual be gallivanting from one state to another, claiming rights? It should be condemned outrightly.

Lawyers and legal luminaries should not keep quiet, whenever they notice any anomaly in the campaign or electioneering process, they should speak up and educate the rest of us. They should ensure that all political aspirants act in ways that conform to the spirit and dicates of the law. No illegality should be allowed to fly, if we are to get it right.

2023 is a season for change if Nigerians truly value it. Many incumbent that performed below expectations should be voted out of office including some senators that had made the National Assembly their permanent homes without making any meaningful impact or contribution to the growth of their constituencies.

Nigeria can never move forward if we continue recycling politicians whose interest only is self and not in the interest of Nigeria.

As far back as 70’s,Nigeria had a good status globally but today, the glory of the country has suddenly gone down the drain through bad and inept leadership.

If Nigerians are indeed serious about change,2023 elections will be a season of working hard for it, we cannot have the desired change not with mere lip service.

In Ondo State, the wife of the Governor,Lady Betty Akeredolu declared to run for Senate in Owerri. Why can’t Owerri people ask Ondo people how they fared in the hand of Akeredolu his husband?

In Rivers,Governor Nyesom Wike wants to be President, why can’t Nigerians ask people of Rivers how they fared in the hand of ‘the emperor Governor’?

In Ogun State under Senator Ibikunle Amosun when he was Governor ,why can’t Nigerians ask Ogun people how they fared under his leadership now that he wants to be President? How true are some insinuations that Senator Amosun turned Ogun State to his personal property?

The list is endless.

On Yemi Osibajo, the current Vice President of Nigeria who desires to run for the office of President, running for any position you’re qualified for is a constitutional right, but the question Nigerians need to ask is, what would be changed if he becomes president, that cannot be influenced in the last Seven years as VP?

It is not just about humility, as a yoruba adage says “Postrating is not a depiction of a well trained child”.

On Tinubu, does he has the energy, the strength and the ability to fight corruption in which he has being alleged to have been part of several times?

We are in a season to determine our future,a time that will never come back until after another four years and four years is a long time to be wasted.

If Nigerians truly yearn for change,it is time to reject every form of tyranny, amala politics, loyalty for individuals and embrace what will make Nigeria work.

Let all those who have something to offer address Nigerians in sober reflection with their programme and plan for the next four years, realistic and achieveable plans and not just empty promises and boasts all over the place. They should run a robust and stimulating campaigns with debates, analysis and arguments. Let us see realistic goals and explain how your actions and policies will help develop the economy and raise the living standards of the poor Nigerian living below the poverty line.
This should not be a season where touts and thugs cash out, rather it should be a season where they convince us beyond party and ethnic lines, that they are truly deserving of our votes.
We cannot afford to get it wrong again.
