In order to consolidate achievement of first time in office,President Muhammadu Buhari’s had requested that Senate confirms the Independent National Electoral Commission,(INEC) Mahmood Yakubu as chairman of INEC again.
This is the second and final term confirmation.
The senate had read the president’s letter after PMB had written since October 27.
Since establishment of the commission,Mr Yakubu is the first to be reappointed for another term as INEC chairman.
Yakubu took took over from Attahiru Jega, who supervised the 2015 general election.
The confirmation was as a result of the report presentation to the Senate committee on INEC.
According to Kabiru Gaya,the chairman of the committee, said Mr Mahmood was found suitable for the position, with no petition or incriminatory report against him.
The nominee displayed (a) high level of intelligence. He is not affiliated to any political party and has never participated in any political campaign.
“The nominee also meets all the requirements for this position,” he told the Senate as he urged the lawmakers to confirm Mr Yakubu.
