The Cross River State house of assembly has unitedly impeached the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem, over the allegations of funds misappropriation.
Elvert Ayambem was impeached on Wednesday, May 21st 2024; the motion for impeachment was moved by Hon. Effiom Ekarika, representing Calabar South 1 Constituency and was also backed by Omang Charles from Bekwarra Constituency.
Majority of the lawmakers passed a vote of no confidence on the Speaker on the allegations surrounding misappropriation of funds.
Elvert represents Ikom 2 Constituency, and was impeached by 17 members out of the 15-member house.
