The Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission has fixed Saturday, November 16, 2024, for the local government election in the 20 local government areas of the state.

The Chairman of the commission in the state, Babatunde Osibodu, made this known in a statement issued on Tuesday.

He said Thursday, August 8, 2024, is scheduled for the release of guidelines for the conduct of the elections and stakeholders meeting while campaigns by political parties begin on Friday, August 9, 2024.

“The political parties are also scheduled to hold their party primaries between Monday, August 26 to Monday, September 9, 2024,” he said.

It was understood that elected local government officials completed their tenure about a week ago.

Consequently, civil servants took charge at the different local government councils across the state pending the election of new chairmen.

This is coming after Supreme Court granted financial autonomy to local government areas, ordering the Federal Government to pay the 20.60% monthly allocation of the 774 LGs in the country directly to their exclusive accounts and not to accounts controlled by governors.
