DSS Arrests Sowore At Lagos Airport As Immigration Seizes His Passport

By Damilare Adeleye

The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested the 2023 presidential candidate of African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.

It was learnt that Sowore was arrested at the airport on Sunday immediately upon his arrival in Nigeria.

The RevolutionNow convener, who had been with his family in the United States, left the Washington Dulles International Airport at 6.14 EDT and arrived in Lagos at around 9.43 WAT.

It was reported that members of the Take It Back Movement and other activists had besieged the airport to await the activist’s return to the country.

In an earlier post, Sowore raised alarm that he was being detained by the Nigerian Immigration Service at the airport. He added that his passport was also confiscated by the immigration personnel.

“I had just arrived in Nigeria from the USA to the MMIA in Lagos; upon reaching Nigerian Immigration, my passport was seized, and they told me They had orders to detain me. It is part of the broader clampdown by the fascist @officialAbat regime on dissent and their fear of the upcoming #FearlessINOctober. In case this becomes a prolonged and protracted detention, I urge our citizens to ensure ALL stop tyranny means portable and necessary, engaging in the planned series of direct actions slated for October 1st and beyond,” he wrote on his social media platform.
