Rotimi Akeredolu,Ondo State Governor; and his Kwara State counterpart, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, have directed all their appointees who have political aspirations to resign.
Deadline given by Akeredolu gave the affected persons till Thursday to quit while AbdulRazaq gave his appointees till Friday to resign.
Mr. Akeredolu’s directive was contained in a circular by the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs Oladunni Odu, which was made available to journalists on Tuesday.
The circular read in part, “As you are aware, President Buhari has signed the amended Electoral Bill into Law and the Independent National Electoral Commission has released guidelines on the conduct of the forthcoming general elections, thereby signalling the commencement of intense political activities both at the federal and state levels:
“Consequently and in line with the provision of Section 84 (12) of the Electoral Act, 2022, political and public office holders desirous of participating in the political process, either as a contestant for elective positions or as delegate, should resign their appointments on or before Thursday, April 14, 2022.
“This is for your Information and strict compliance, please.”
In Kwara, the governor’s directive was contained in a statement by the SSG, Prof Mamman Jibril, in Ilorin on Tuesday.
The statement read in part, “In line with provision of Section 84 (12) of the new Electoral Act, all Kwara State Government’s appointees seeking nominations for elective offices in the forthcoming primaries are hereby directed to resign.
“All resignation letters are to be submitted to the office of the Secretary to Kwara State Government no later than April 15, 2022.”
