By Ikugbadi Oluwasegun

Seun Kuti, also known as Oluseun Anikulapo Kuti, on Friday, released his new album titled ‘Heavier Yet, Lays The Crownless Head’. The six-track album features two collaborations: Damian Marley on “DEY” and Sampa The Great on “Emi Aluta.”

The tracklist includes: T.O.P, Dey (feat. Damian Marley), Stand Well Well, Emi Aluta (feat. Sampa The Great), Love & Revolution and Move.

Seun Kuti critiques capitalism in one track, highlighting how the capitalistic spirit prioritizes “Things Over People” (T.O.P.) instead of “People Over Things.”

He notes that this has resulted in numerous deaths and emphasizes the need for healing. Capitalists want more land, water, oil, gold and slivers at the expense of the seas, trees, rivers.

He also addresses freedom, justice, and religion’s role in enabling corruption.

The album sheds light on the world’s darkness, where the rich continue to accumulate wealth while the poor struggle.

Despite the challenges, Seun Kuti remains committed to advocating for the people and the environment.

Seun Kuti, a Pan-Africanist, has taken over his father’s band, Egypt 80, after his demise. He has consistently spoken out against the ills plaguing Nigeria, Africa, and the world.

Seun Kuti has announced that “DEY” featuring Damian Marley has been submitted for the Grammy Awards in the Best African Music Performance category.

The single, produced by Lenny Kravitz and Sodi Marciszewer, was released on June 26 and is gaining global attention.”
