After months of speculation, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has finally declared his intention to run for the office of the President under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). That has been the game plan along the line. The script is just coming out to manifestation.
Few weeks back, the ruling APC agreed to a consensus after series of back and forth discussions and negotiations. Many candidates were aggrieved but still buried their aspiration on the basis of respect for President Muhammadu Buhari. The big question is – Who will APC be giving its presidential ticket to? Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu (BAT)? Professor Yemi Osinbajo? Mr. Rotimi Amaechi? Senator Rochas Okorocha? Governor Yahaya Bello? Who? This is a big question that only a consensus will answer. Will it be Asiwaju the National leader or Osibanjo?
Rumours have it that Osinbajo is the consensus candidate for APC and this has the support of President Muhammadu Buhari. You will recall that Buhari once said, “If I mention my candidate, they might want to kill him.” Is it Osibanjo? The APC script is still unfolding after several denials by the spokesperson to the Vice President, who denied claims that Osibanjo had intentions to run for the top office, and if he has,it will be announced at the right time.
Before the declaration of Professor Yemi Osibanjo, (PYO),he had a breakfast with 12 governors and only nineteen attended including Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu. Are we saying Sanwo-Olu who is the Chief Campaigner for Bola Tinubu is also serving PYO? There are many questions begging for answers.
As we speak, there are rumours ongoing about plans by Asiwaju Bola Tinubu to defect to Social Democratic Party,(SDP) in case the game unfolds and it doesn’t favour him. Asiwaju Bola Tinubu hours after the declaration of Osinbajo also met with the Progressive Governors forum to intimate them of his plan to run for President. Give it to Asiwaju, he holds a big structure of APC and those rooting for Osinbajo have none. If today, Asiwaju, decamps, he will move with his structure to a new party and it will still be worthwhile. But would he get the game changer votes from the note? Who will endorse him to the northerners?
There is no doubt, PYO has benefited immensely from Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, infact, his political success won’t have been possible if not for the support given to him by Asiwaju, but is the 2023 agenda the price to pay for loyalty? If this APC game continues despite the fact that the APC party executives largely belongs to Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, looking at the likes of Adamu who was nominated by Buhari and Senator Iyiola Omisore, the National Secretary who was nominated by Asiwaju Tinubu. How far can they take him?
Recently, Pastor Adeboye said the Lord has not spoken to him concerning if there will be elections in 2023,and yes it seems so if the politics of bitterness and back stabbing continues, the 2023 in view might be a game changer for all of us.
It is high time we think and we look at the future of the country. Every interested Nigerians deserve to contest but the amala politics and selfish interest structure needs to be done away with without delay. If not, eyes will see more than ears will hear.
