Fact have emerged that the suspended Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, may have opted for a plea bargain over his ongoing trial.
This is coming as there is an indefinite shift in his arraignment in court on Wednesday.
Sources privy to the development said Emefiele and his his-co accused, Saadat Yaro, have opted for a plea bargain policy to settle with the Federal Government.
It could be recalled that the federal government through the Department of State Security Service (DSS) filed a 20-count charge bordering on alleged breach of procurement laws and contract inflation on the suspects.
However, the arraignment scheduled for Wednesday by a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory was not stated on the cause list.
Emefiele’s lawyers, Kehinde Akinlolu, also confirmed the shift in the arraignment, saying that a new date may likely be issued by the Chief Judge, Justice Hussein Baba Yusuf.
At the time of this report, DSS operatives, who used to escort him to court, and his legal team were not present at the court premises.
