The Unilag branch of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) has called for the chairing of the Earned Allowance Sharing Committee by a non-teaching staff member.
Rising from a congress held this week, in Lagos, it was agreed that non-teaching staff should be made to chair the committee on the sharing of Earned Allowance belonging and payable to all members of the non-teaching staff.
Consequent to the resolution of the congress, the excos and elders of the Unilag SSANU gave effect to the resolution by communicating, officially, Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, the Vice Chancellor, University of Lagos, expressing it lack of confidence in the leadership of the body currently led by the academic staff.
According to a press release issued after their meeting, “the entire SSANU members have lost confidence in the Earned Allowance sharing committee headed by an academic staff for the entitlement belonging to the non-teaching staff.”
“The committee on sharing of Earned Allowance should henceforth be headed and populated by a competent member of the non-teaching staff,” the press released concluded.
The SSANU meanwhile, enjoined it members to maintain peace and go about their normal duties with the assurance that the right thing would be done, while also stating that it communicated the congress’ resolution to the Vice Chancellor for appropriate actions to be taken.
The non-teaching staff are the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and Non Academic Staff Union of the Universities and Allied Institutions (NASU).
