The year 2020 has been so boring here in Nigeria due to the Big “Corona Virus” himself. The entire fun places, religious Centre, football competition were all closed down by the government as a means of combating the epoch virus.
Literarily, many would say, 2020 is indescribable but what we shall then say than to thank God for life.
As the country was still trying to find a clear path to combats against coronavirus, another virus visited Nigeria like a Tsunami called “EndSARS”.
You see this “EndSARS” virus; it was a no respecter of persons as those who dared to go out of their houses were locked down in their vehicles.
As the protest gained momentum, hoodlums hijacked the genuine protest of the Nigerian youths which was calling on the government to scrap SARS, an anti-robbery unit of the Nigerian police force that had been extorting and killing innocent Nigerian youths, and also to end bad governance.
The worst happened on the 20th October 2020 when Nigerian soldiers shot against innocent protesters demanding an end to bad governance.
The incident shook the world and hoodlums took over in Nigeria and reigned for a week dishing out bad governance to Nigerians by looting and burning innocent businesses and homes of few privileged persons to rubbish genuine protest of the Nigerian youths.
Then, here comes the long awaited address by the president of Nigeria. Actually, it was a no speech at all.
Oh! I remember today is 55 days to Christmas but what came to my mind with the various happening this year is, would there be Christmas???
As we all know, Christmas is a widely celebrated annual Christian festival held every 25th of December .
It is a time to wine and dine as the year closes in appreciation. The traditional date of December 25 goes as far as A.D.273.
Christmas from records means “Christ” and “Mass”. The Christ in the acronym means Christians while “Mass” means large gathering which means a celebration for Christians.
From history, no one knows the real birthday of Jesus as there was no date given in the bible. There have been several arguments on the authenticity of the date but Christian’s faithful had continued to celebrate the day on the 25th of December every year only for a few exceptions like Ethiopia that celebrates theirs every 7th of January.
The most important thing to note is that Christmas is a time when family and friends come together and appreciate good times.
As we all await 2020 Christmas, it is my hope and prayer that the third virus would not strike in Nigeria.
