Alhaji Bello Maitama Yusuf, a former minister of Interior, is dead.
He died in Kano at the age of 76 in the early hours of Friday.
A family friend of the deceased, Alhaji Hussaini Dalhatu confirmed that the funeral prayer of the Sardauna Dutse would take place after Jumu’at prayer at the Emir of Kano’s palace.
It was recalled that Bello Maitama Yusuf, born in Gwaram, Jigawa State in 1947 was minister of interior in 1981 and minister of commerce in 1982.
He also was elected to the Nigerian Senate for the Jigawa South West constituency in April 1999 and reelected in April 2003. He played prominent roles in attacking the Third Term Agenda and indicting President Obasanjo for mismanaging a petroleum development fund, he was also a prominent member of the Senate committee on youth and sports.He was also given the title “Sarduanan Dutse” in his state Jigawa.
