The Ogun state Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) said four persons have died in a road accident in Abeokuta.
In a statement on Friday, Babatunde Akinbiyi, the agency’s public relations officer, said the accident occurred when a truck rammed into motorcycles and passengers in the Enugada area of Lafenwa.
Akinbiyi added that the accident, which also left one person injured, was due to brake failure.
“An eyewitness reported that the truck experienced brake failure while descending from Itoku towards Enugada, Lafenwa,” he said.
“It crashed into two motorcycles and a Honda CRV, killing both motorcyclists and their passengers instantly, while the Honda CRV driver sustained injuries.
“Initially, six fatalities were assumed, including the injured Honda CRV driver and a pedestrian, but first responders and bystanders managed to revive some of the victims at the crash site.
“Unfortunately, the truck driver and his assistant fled the scene and could not be located when the truck finally halted.
“The bodies of the deceased have been taken to a hospital by the Police.”
TRACE, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and the police extended condolences to families of the deceased. They urged motorists to ensure their vehicles are properly maintained and that critical mechanical parts are checked before any trip.
