The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) legally secured the conviction of Quadri Adeyinka, an officer of the Nigeria Immigration Service, for getting involved in travelling passport fraud.
Della Bakare, Acting Director, Public Enlightenment and Education, who also doubles as the Spokesperson for the commission, said ICPC arraigned Quadri before Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie of the Federal High Court Abuja on four charges which are against the Corrupt Practices Act 2000 and the Penal Code.
Quadri was charged for gratification, conferment of corrupt practices, cheating and obtaining monetary values illegally.
Dr Osuobeni Akponimisingha, ICPC counsel presented evidence to the court on how Quadri Adeyinka defrauded Ovie Ojeffia under the pretense of regularising passport.
According to report, Adeyinka received N100,000 promising to regularise the passport but never did.
Ovie, the victim, petitioned ICPC and this led to the conviction of the Immigration Officer.
However, Justice Onwuegbuzie in his judgment found Quadri Adeyinka guilty of all the charges, and therefore sentenced him to seven years in prison.
