IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Inspector-General of Police, has reaffirmed the ban on publicly parading criminal suspects before they are formally charged in court.
This directive aligns with global best practices and aims to uphold the fundamental human rights of all citizens.
ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Force Public Relations Officer while speaking with Journalists in Abuja emphasized that the directive, already communicated to all police commands and zones, is a key part of the Nigeria Police Force’s modernization efforts.
Adejobi maintained that the directive reflects the commitment to respecting human rights and aligns with international standards that prioritize the dignity of individuals throughout the judicial process.
He declared that the Nigeria Police Force remain dedicated to lawful operations and fostering a culture of respect for human rights among its personnel.
The Force Public Relations Officer said the IGP also urged the public, particularly the media, to comply with this directive, emphasizing that responsible reporting and ethical journalism are essential for maintaining public trust and ensuring a fair justice system.
