IGP Egbetokun Orders Police To Vacate Lagos Barracks Within Four Weeks

IGP Kayode Egbetokun, Inspector-General of Police has given all occupants and dwellers of Ijeh Police Barracks in Lagos State to vacate the facility within a period of four weeks.

The directive was contained in a police wireless message obtained on Monday and addressed to ‘ALL RESIDENTS POLICE BARRACKS IJEH LAGOS STATE’ from the Inspector-General of Police.

It stated that all the dwellers must leave the barracks before 10th of November, 2024.

The wireless message reads: “INFO: INGENPOL SEC ABUJA / NIGPOLS DFA/DLS ABUJA / POLCONSTRUCT ABUJA / AIGZON 2 ONIKAN / AIGPOL FHQ ANNEX LAGOS / COMPOL WORKS (MAINTENANCE) FHQ ABUJA / PROVOST FHQ ANNEX LAGOS / DECOMPOL WORKS FHQ ANNEX LAGOS / WORKSZON 2 ONIKAN

/“CW:0108/DLS/W/FHQ/ABJ/VOL.4/77X BUILDING PROGRAMME LAGOS STATE X REF. INGENPOL DIRECTIVES VIDE SIGNALS X NO. This is coming after an official directive stated that the execution of the barracks redevelopment programme in Lagos would cover the following barracks: Ijeh Police barracks, Bourdillion barracks, Falomo; Police Mounted Troops- Ribadu, Ikoyi; Alausa police barracks, Obafemi Awolowo Way, Ikeja; Federal Highway Patrol barracks, Yaba and Iponri Police barracks, Surulere.

The directive further said: “Payment of compensation to verified occupants of the listed barracks will commence immediately ahead of demolition of dilapidated structures and that the exercise is to pave the way for the construction of new structures which will commence in earnest.”
