Kano Women Protest Over Increase in Price Of Flour, Production of Bread

Kano women protest over the increase in the price of flour and price of bread ingredients.

The women mostly local bread producers said the cost of living is too high and has crippled their means of survival.

The women were seen in the streets of Kano on Friday with various placards with inscriptions such as “Nigerians are hungry”, “Inflation too high”, etc.

Fatima Auwal, leader of the group in Kano said that the group, mostly composed of widows, is on the verge of total collapse.

She added, “Many of our members can’t afford to buy flour now. The economic situation in Nigeria has gone from bad to worse. Many of us who manage to produce are indebted. We can’t afford to send our kids to school anymore, and feeding is now a challenge.”

Auwal called on President Tinubu and other relevant stakeholders to consider their plight and intervene, especially in the area of the cost of flour. She also pleaded with major flour producers and marketers to look into their condition and provide the product at a more affordable price.

The leader of the group expressed her hope that the industry will be saved from folding up, emphasizing the urgent need for support and intervention.
