LASG to Remove Shanties, Clean Up Adeniji Adele Underbridge in Crackdown on Criminal Hideouts

By Yusuf Olukokun

Tokunbo Wahab, Commissioner, Lagos State Ministery of Environment and Water Resources has announced the removal of shanties and immediate clean-up of Adeniji Adele Underbrigde in Lagos State.

In the press release, the Commissioner said the cleanup would begin on Monday, 6th May 2024, after prior notice had been given to the occupants of the shanties.

“The removal is coming after the expiration of a 48-hour removal notice served on all occupants of the shanties to move with their belongings. And operatives of the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI/LAGESC) and officials from the Monitoring Enforcement and Compliance (MEC) department of the ministry will be given security backup to conduct the operation”, he said.

However, according to the Commissioner, the exercise is part of the plans of the Babajide Sanwo-olu, Lagos State Governor, who vowed to claim all spaces that have been a bottle neck against environmental laws of Lagos State.

There are also several pointers about the shanties, which are serving as hideouts for criminals who are disrupting the peace of Lagos State, while indulging in drug or harmful substances that are perilous to the well-being of law abiding Lagosians.

The Commissioner has therefore advised all the occupants of these shanties to move out of the place willingly without being coerced before the enforcement operational modes start tomorrow.
