The Vice Chancellor of Lagos State University, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, has ordered immediate withdrawn of newly introduced CBT, counselling, and forensic fees imposed on students.
The withdrawal came on the heel of protest by students and consultation by the students’ union body on Monday, July 8.
The Nigerian Voice had exclusively reported yesterday that the students were outraged over the imposition of CBT fee by the school management.
It was learnt that the fee, which was put at ten thousand naira (N10,000), was introduced on the students’ portal on Friday, July 6.
While the rationale behind behind the new fee was not disclosed, many students, however expressed resentment and rejected the development with an hashtag that reads: “#SAYNOTOEXTORTION.”
Meanwhile, in a terse statement issued on Monday, the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Mrs Oluwayemisi Thomas-Onashile, said the withdrawal of the new fees is to take immediate effect.
The statement reads, “The Vice Chancellor, Lagos State University, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, following a meeting with students of the University, on Monday, 8th June 2024, has directed that the decision by the University on recently introduced CBT, Counselling, and Forensic charges, be withdrawn with immediate effect.”
