The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has dismantled an illegal herbal medicine factory in Mararaba, near the Federal Capital Territory.

Acting on a tip from a concerned citizen, a team led by Mr. Tamanuwa Andrew, Deputy Director, Investigation & Enforcement Directorate, discovered the production of hazardous, unregistered herbal mixtures capable of causing severe health issues, including liver cirrhosis and kidney failure.

The facility, located at Amina Plaza, was sealed, and suspects were arrested.

The herbalist involved claimed that his products, allegedly sourced from Ogun State, were effective and had not harmed anyone despite operating for over six months.

He admitted to purchasing products with fake NAFDAC registration numbers from Onitsha but denied producing items with those numbers.

NAFDAC stated the suspect would be prosecuted after the investigation.

In related enforcement, NAFDAC also raided Wuse Market in Abuja, seizing counterfeit and substandard drugs valued at over 20 million Naira.

The haul included Tramadol, aphrodisiacs, and other synthetic medications, highlighting the Agency’s commitment to curbing the circulation of dangerous products.
