Niger State Gov’t to Ban Marker Sign-Out Celebration in Tertiary Institutions, Secondary Schools

By Ikugbadi Oluwasegun

The Niger State Government is set to ban Marker Day/Sign-out celebrations in all secondary and tertiary institutions. The State House of Assembly has passed a motion urging Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago to issue an executive order to enforce the ban.

This decision follows concerns over unruly behavior, misconduct, and immoral activities associated with these events.

Lawmakers believe the celebrations undermine the state’s educational system, which aims to promote students’ holistic development. The motion was unanimously supported, with lawmakers describing it as a timely decision given the public’s increasing outcry. If approved, the ban would apply to both public and private institutions.

The proposed ban aims to promote discipline and order in schools. By stopping these celebrations, the government hopes to refocus students on their academic pursuits and ensure a safer learning environment. The decision is expected to have a positive impact on the state’s education sector.

The Deputy Speaker, Hon. Afiniki Dauda, has assured that she will follow up with the governor and the State Ministry of Education to ensure immediate enforcement of the ban. This move demonstrates the government’s commitment to maintaining order and discipline in schools.

The ban on Marker Day celebrations is part of broader efforts to improve the state’s educational system. By addressing issues associated with these events, the government aims to create a more conducive learning environment for students
