Nobody Has Arrested Me, I’m In My Home In Onitsha— Peter Obi Debunks Rumour

Peter Obi, presidential candidate of Labour Party in the 2023 general elections, has refuted claims of his arrest, confirming that he is currently at his residence in Onitsha, Anambra State.

His rebuttal follows the viral rumour which surfaced on social media amidst an ongoing exchange of allegations between Obi and Felix Morka, the spokesperson of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), over alleged death threats.

In a statement shared on his official Twitter handle on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, Obi described the arrest claims as false and urged his supporters to ignore the misinformation.

“The recurring fake news about me. I have been made aware of a circulating false claim regarding my alleged arrest. Let me categorically state that these claims are entirely untrue. I am currently at my home in Onitsha, Anambra State. Such fake news has unfortunately become a pastime for some individuals,” Obi wrote.

He also recalled a similar incident in September 2024 when false reports alleged that the Department of State Services (DSS) had raided his residence, even though he was in Rwanda at the time.

“Last year, while I was in Rwanda, rumors surfaced that DSS invaded my house. Now, as I sit at home in Onitsha, they claim I was arrested in Abuja. The motives behind these falsehoods are far from positive, but we must not allow baseless rumors to distract us from the pressing challenges facing our nation,” he stated.
