The Ogun State Government has announced Prince Saka Matemilola as the new Olowu of Owu in Abeokuta North Local Government Area of the state.
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo holds the traditional chieftaincy title of Balogun of Owu and he is from Owu.
The Olowu of Owu stool became vacant following the demise of Oba Adegboyega Dosunmu, in December 2021.
At the State Executive Committee’s meeting held on Monday evening, Matemilola was announced as the 14th Olowu of Owu.
Governor Dapo Abiodun’s Chief Press Secretary, Kunle Somorin, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.
Somorin added that the government approved the appointments of other new traditional rulers to fill the vacant stools in the state.
He added, “The state government equally announced the approval of some persons into vacant chieftaincy positions, while approval was also granted for the change of a chieftaincy title.
“The decision for the approval was taken during the State Executive Committee meeting held on Monday evening.”

The Oyo State Government has reinstated 129 public primary school teachers, who were unlawfully sacked by the previous administration.
Nureni Adeniran,Executive Chairman, State Universal Basic Education Board, made this known in a statement by Olamide Adeniji, his media aide, on Wednesday in Ibadan.
Mr Adeniran said the state Executive Council had approved the reinstatement of 129 officers wrongly dismissed by the state government between 2011 and 2019.
He said it was subject to the dismissed teachers agreeing not to demand arrears payment for the period they were away which the state converted to leave of absence.

Gunmen have reportedly attacked a construction company in Owo, Ondo State.
Gunshots was said to have shot sporadically at the site of Craneburg Construction Company, Owo on Wednesday evening.
In a tweet, the police confirmed that some people were injured during the attack.
“Tonight, there was a shooting incident at Craneburg Construction Company, Owo.
“Policemen are currently at the scene, victims have been taken to hospital and they are in stable condition.”
Gunmen had killed scores of church worshippers in Owo last month.
The armed men entered St Francis Catholic church in the town of Owo and fired at the congregation during a service to mark the holiday of Pentecost.
