One Dead, Seven Rescued As Building Collapses During Heavy Rainfall In Lagos

A yet-to-be identified child has been confirmed dead in a fresh building collapse incident in Mushin axis of Lagos State.

It was learnt that the collapse took place due to the heavy downpour in the state on Wednesday morning.

About seven other people were also rescued from the rubble of the collapsed building.

At the scene of the incident, residents and onlookers were blaming the collapse on the poor materials used to construct the building.

One of the residents said, “The way they built in Lagos is worrisome. Look at this collapsed building now, no cement for the pillar, it is just too much of sand.”

Another resident added that some people were still currently trapped inside the building while efforts were underway to get them rescued alive.

Thousands of of road users and commuters were stranded as floods took over major roads, including the famous third mainland bridge in Lagos.

The floods were as a result of heavy rain which started around 3am Wednesday midnight.
