Peter Obi Congratulates Nigerian Singer Over 2nd Grammy Award Win

Peter Obi, 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has congratulated Nigerian singer, Tems, on her win at the 67th Academy Grammy Awards.

Understandably, Tems won the ‘Best African Music Performance’ category on Monday morning for her song ‘Love Me Jeje‘.

The songstress beat fellow Nigerian singers including Yemi Alade, Asake, Wizkid, Davido, Lojay, and Burna Boy to win the award.

This year’s award is Tems’ second Grammy win, following her 2023 victory in the ‘Best Melodic Rap Performance’ category for her role in ‘Wait for U’, the 2022 hit song by Future featuring Drake.

In his congratulatory message via X, Obi expressed his pride in the achievements of Nigerian youth, particularly in the entertainment sector.

The former governor of Anambra also praised Tems for her “well-deserved win” while congratulating the other Grammy-nominated Nigerian artistes.

“I am ever elated by the huge success Nigerian youths are making in various fields, especially in the entertainment sector,” he wrote.

“I like therefore to extend my hearty congratulations to our Nigerian Afrobeats star, Tems @temsbaby, who just secured her second Grammy Award with her win in the Best African Music Performance category.

“I also rejoice with Nigeria’s entertainment industry and other Nigerian artistes who were nominated for different awards in their respective categories.

“Undoubtedly, Nigeria remains home to the endless flow of talents who through their creative arts, continue to put the nation on the global map.

“I firmly remain committed to building a nation that fosters growth among the youths and helps them discover and harness their individual talents for national productivity.”
