The Nigeria Police Force has arrested 5,488 suspects between June and July 2025 for crimes including kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism, and cybercrime.

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, who made the disclosure at a meeting with strategic Police Officers in Abuja said 316 firearms, 2,884 rounds of ammunition, and 216 stolen vehicles were recovered, while 170 kidnap victims were rescued.
He emphasized the need for intelligence-driven, technology-enabled, and community-based policing to tackle evolving security threats.
On welfare, the IGP expressed concern over the poor conditions of retired officers under the Contributory Pension Scheme, assuring ongoing engagement with the government for reforms.
To boost morale, he announced accelerated promotion for officers who win the IGP’s Award for Exceptional Professionalism twice in a row.
