Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) have apprehended a twenty-three year-old dispatch rider for making off with a Toyota Camry, 2010 model.
The suspect, Ternia Samuel, was arrested on Wednesday at the RRS headquarters, Alausa, Ikeja, when he walked into the hands of the policemen who have been trailing him since last Sunday night, when he snatched the car key of the sympathizer who was soliciting for the release of his unregistered Denstar motorcycle in Dopemu, Agege.
Rapid Response Squad (RRS) operatives on patrol had on suspicion at about 10:00 p.m. on Sunday intercepted the suspect’s unregistered motorcycle with a passenger on Dopemu Bridge.
A passerby (name withheld) who witnessed the interception solicited for the release of the bike and that the suspect was his brother.
The operatives insisted that the rider come along with the owner to RRS Headquarters the following day.
Thereafter, the passerby took the suspect in his vehicle to the pin – down point of another RRS team to help him facilitate the release of his brother’s bike from their colleagues.
It was at this point that the suspect snatched the passerby’s car key, dashed into his Toyota Camry with the registration number FKJ 415 HA and sped off. The operatives followed suit but missed the vehicle.
The passerby then confessed to the operatives that he was only assisting the boy to secure the release of his bike from the police.
The vehicle was later recovered by Shasha Police Division few minutes after the incident.
Meanwhile, Commander of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi, has directed the prompt arraignment of the suspect.
