Police Force Summons NLC Chairman Over Terrorism Funding, Cybercrime

By Damilare Adeleye

The Nigeria Police Force has extended invitation to the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero.

The invitation was said to be in connection with an ongoing investigation into serious criminal allegations, including terrorism financing.

The invitation is reportedly part of a broader probe into alleged criminal conspiracy, treasonable felony, subversion, and cybercrime.

A letter of invitation obtained on Monday and issued by the Intelligence Response Team (IRT), was signed by Assistant Commissioner of Police Mu’azu.

It directed Ajaero to appear for an interview at the IRT Complex in Abuja on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at 10:00 AM.

The letter indicated that Ajaero was mentioned in the ongoing investigation, and failure to honour the invitation could lead to the issuance of a warrant for his arrest.

“This office is investigating a case of Criminal Conspiracy, Terrorism Financing, Treasonable Felony, Subversion and Cybercrime in which you were mentioned.

“You are therefore invited to interview the undersigned on Tuesday 20th Aug, 2024 by 10:00hrs prompt, at IRT Complex, Old Abattoir by Guzape Junction, Abuja, through the Team Leader with telephone no 08035179870 in connection with the above investigation.

“Be informed that in the event of failing to honour this letter, this office will have no alternative than to activate a warrant of arrest against you please,” the letter read.

This development follows a raid conducted by the police last week on the Nigeria Labour Congress headquarters in Abuja.

The raid, which targeted the second floor of the NLC complex, was reportedly carried out to search for incriminating documents that could link the labour organization to international elements allegedly involved in subversive activities against Nigeria’s democracy.
