Seven Persons Rescued From Collapsed Mining Pit in Niger State

Seven individuals have been dutifully rescued from a collapsed mining site at Galadima Kogo village, in Shiroro Local government area of Niger State by Federal government officials.

Dr. Dele Alake, Minister of Solid Minerals, revealed this on Tuesday to display the commitment of Federal government in handling crisis at mining site, in order to protect lives.

Dele stated after the rescue operation, “Upon learning of the incident, we mobilised our Federal Mines Officer (FMO) and officials of the Mines Inspectorate to the site. In collaboration with the mining company, we have rescued seven victims, some with injuries. Rescue operations with excavators are ongoing to ensure we avert any loss of lives.”

According to reports, the statement by the Special Assistant on Media to the Minister, Segun Tomori, disclosed that the new policy by the ministry has mandated anybody opting for license to show how crisis would be mitigated at the mining site.

He also assured the public that the situation at the mining site operated by African Minerals and Logistics Limited is being monitored, and investigative approach would be used to determine the causes in order to prevent future occurrence.
