A Nigerian military fighter jet targeted at Lakurawa terrorist group has reportedly killed several villagers and injured many others in two communities in Silame Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

According to local sources, the affected communities, Gidan Sama and Rumtuwa, were struck around 7 a.m. on Wednesday.

Confirming the incident, chairman of Silame LGA, Alhaji Abubakar Muhammad Daftarana, described the incident as heartbreaking saying the number of casualties could not be entertained as present.

“The villagers were sitting peacefully when the bombs started dropping on the communities. They were innocent and peace-loving people who had no criminal record.

“It is too early for me to confirm the exact number of people killed or injured because we are still assessing the situation,” Daftarana said.

Also, Malam Yahya, a resident of Silame, explained that the villages are situated near Surame Forest, a known hideout for the Lakurawa group and bandits.

Another source reportedly said that the airstrike claimed over 10 lives, leaving many others with various injuries.

However, when contacted, the Sokoto State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Ahmad Rufa’i, said the incident was not related to police operations.
