Stakeholders Meet to Set Standard Steps in Organ Transplants, Donation

The Federal Ministry of Health through tertiary health institutions standards committee is taking a step further at enhancing standards of healthcare in Nigeria.

Reports has it that medical & legal experts, security and regulatory bodies as well as the media are meeting in Abuja to finalise a document that will guide how a second chance at life is offered to patients with end-stage organ failure while safety and other concerns of all parties involved is secured.

Experts agree that this will regulate the practice of organ transplant and harvesting as well as protect vulnerable population from exploitation.

Upon completion, the document is expected to get the approval of the coordinating minister of health and social welfare and that of the president.
