Tinubu Approves Posting of 65 Ambassadors to Foreign Missions

President Bola Tinubu, has approved the posting of 65 ambassadors to various countries and international missions, including the United Nations, as part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s diplomatic representation abroad.

The appointments comprise 31 non-career ambassadors and 34 career ambassadors whose nominations were earlier confirmed by the Nigerian Senate in December last year.

Among the prominent non-career ambassadors approved by the President are Grace Bent, who will serve in Lome, Togo; Ita Enang, posted to South Africa; Victor Ikpeazu, assigned to Spain; and Nkechi Linda Ufochukwu, posted to Tel Aviv, Israel.

Others include Mahmud Yakubu, who will represent Nigeria in Qatar; Reno Omokri, posted to Mexico; Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau, assigned to China; Jimoh Ibrahim, who will serve as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations; and Femi Fani-Kayode, posted to Germany.

Also on the non-career list are Isaac Folorunso Adewole to Canada, Olufemi Pedro to Australia, Lateef Kayode Are to the United States, and Nora Ladi Daduut to South Korea, among others.

The career ambassadors posted to different countries include Nwabiola Ezenwa Chukwumeka to Côte d’Ivoire, Maimuna Besto Ibrahim to Niger Republic, Mohammed Mahmud Lele to Algeria, Ahmed Mohammed Monguno to Egypt, and Abdussalam Habu Zayyad to Senegal.

Others include Segun Ige to Lebanon, Ruben Abimbola Samuel to Italy, Aminu Nasir to Ethiopia, Bako Adamu Umar to Morocco, and Adebayo Emmanuel Ayeni to Belgium.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Nigeria) disclosed that agrément has already been received from the United Kingdom for the High Commissioner-designate, Ambassador Aminu Dalhatu, while the France has also granted agrément for Ambassador Ayo Oke.

According to the ministry, the nominations of the remaining envoys have been forwarded to their respective host countries, along with requests for agrément in accordance with established diplomatic procedures.

President Tinubu has also directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Nigeria) to immediately commence the induction programme for the ambassadors-designate and High Commissioners ahead of their official deployment.

The development is expected to strengthen Nigeria’s diplomatic engagement and enhance bilateral relations with countries across Africa, Europe, Asia, and the Americas.
