A devastating accident occurred on Saturday evening in Owerri, the capital of Imo State, when a trailer lost control and crashed into three minibuses, resulting in the death of seven people. According to eyewitnesses, the incident happened around 7 pm at the Imo State University junction, where the trailer, driving against traffic, rammed into the minibuses, each carrying nine passengers, including the drivers.
The impact was catastrophic, with some victims rushed to the Federal University of Technology Hospital Owerri for treatment, while seven others were confirmed dead and deposited at the morgue. An eyewitness, Emeka, described the horrific scene, stating that the buses were hit in quick succession due to their close proximity to each other.
The accident caused a massive gridlock on the busy Okigwe Road, as a crowd gathered at the scene and others rushed to the hospital to search for their relatives. Despite efforts to reach the police spokesperson, ASP Henry Okoye, his telephone line was unreachable at the time of filing this report.
This tragic incident has left the community in shock, highlighting the need for increased caution and safety measures on our roads to prevent such devastating accidents.
